Welcome to the FAQ of the “Life and Health” Announcement System.
What is the “Life and Health” Announcement System?
TRA Life and Health and Bonner Forum Biomedizin offer a new system to announce seminars and lectures across the topics of “Life and Health”, taking place in Bonn. The system is web-based and designed to be displayed on screens in central areas of participating institutes. Interested institutes are welcome to participate. Please contact Dr. Meike Brömer, TRA Life and Health for further information (tra3@uni-bonn.de).

What hardware do we recommend?
In principle, announcements can be displayed on any internet-capable device. However, we generally recommend the following components:
- A monitor
- You can use any PC that is available to you. For space reasons, we recommend the use of an inexpensive mini PC (e.g. a GEEKOM N4020).
- A sturdy mounting solution. We recommend mounting the monitor on the wall.
- Power supply and a network socket close to the system.
We recommend consulting the responsible fire safety officer before installation. Depending on the specific local conditions, it may be necessary to utilize specialized fire protection enclosures or non-combustible monitors..
What are my options if there is no network socket at the intended location?
We currently use a Wireless HD System to transmit the video signal over extended distances (about 7 meters) from the PC to the monitor. Our results with this System has been good. There are devices that advertise a transmission range of up to 120 meters. These stated ranges depend on the local circumstaces and are depended on potential obstacles or wall thicknesses. However, ranges of up to 20 meters seem quite realistic.
In many buildings, WLAN access points are often installed within suspended ceilings. Depending on the specific environment, it might be feasible to establish a PC connection in that location.
